While it is not as good as a cavern, an undercut riverbank can be the best place to remain safe from heavy rain. The presence of trees in the nearby area can help you remain safe from winds. Before getting under this shelter, you may want to check it for stability.

Underneath a fir tree

Fit trees grow with huge branches with leaves long enough to touch the ground. With its leaves and branches making it impossible to see the sky why you sit underneath it, you can consider a fir tree as an emergency shelter.

Deadfalls

You can solve a lot of survival problems by using deadfalls in your favor. It can provide you shelter and firewood. You can cut its roots to make the walls and roof of the shelter and also cook foods. Cutting some branches from the underside of the fallen tree can make a living space. In most cases, these deadfalls have other trees and rock in their surroundings, meaning that these are well-protected from weather effects.

Depending on the direction of the wind, you can find shelter against a vertical object, such as a rock or a wall. Even though you may not stay 100% dry if it is raining, you will be able to protect your body and clothes from getting completely drenched.
